Our Story
The Jason Hendron Construction Story
The Hendron Construction family tree is now in its third generation of craftsmen. Started in the 1950s by Robert Hendron, Bob built many homes in the Wilmington and surrounding areas with his own company, as well as working with other builders and contractors.
Family Trade Legacy
Both of Bob’s sons, Dave and Dan, followed in their father’s footsteps as tradesmen, Dave as a union carpenter and Dan as a union electrician. Third-generation tradesman and owner Jason Hendron began his construction career at the age of 12, helping and working alongside his grandfather, father, and uncle on various jobs.
High School Beginnings
As Jason began his junior year at Wilmington High School, he was presented with the opportunity to join the building trades program that the high school offered. During his junior and senior years at WHS, Jason and his classmates constructed two homes from start to finish that the school would sell each year. This is where Jason decided that the construction gene would carry on through him!
Early Career and Apprenticeship
Following graduation in 2001, Jason joined the Chicago Regional Carpenters Apprenticeship Program. While he was enrolled in that, Jason was also taking classes at Joliet Jr. College to obtain an associate degree in construction management. In 2005, after the apprenticeship program and JJC, Jason opened up Hendron Construction. Jason started out doing small one-man jobs: windows, doors, siding, small decks, flooring projects, kitchen remodels, etc.
Challenges and Resilience
While the first 3 years of business were good, the housing crash of 2008 came and left Jason without much work. He decided to close the business and go work for a more established contractor for the time being. Fast-forward to 2015, and Jason never lost the desire to go back into business for himself. He reopened as Jason Hendron Construction, specializing in interior finish carpentry, kitchen and bath remodels, and working with real estate investors on renovating foreclosed homes.
Expanding into Retail
In 2020, after 5 years back in business, Jason was presented with an opportunity to be a retailer for cabinetry, countertops, and flooring. Knowing that this would be unique to the Wilmington area, he jumped at the opportunity. Starting out, he was selling the products basically out of his basement office and the back of his pickup truck, while still trying to do all the installations on his own.
Establishing a Showroom
Starting in 2021, Jason decided that it had to be one or the other: sell or install. After talking to friends who are contractors, he decided that he was going to open a retail location to set up a showroom for all his lines he carries, while recommending his contractor friends to his clients for installations. Today, with the help of Jason’s fiancé, Lisa (who runs her own hair salon at the same location), greets clients as they come to the showroom at 450 Davy Lane in Wilmington, IL.
